According to Vanguard, the Assistant Inspector-General, AIG, in charge of Police Zone 1, Kano, detained five domestic staff of the former governor, including a driver since last Thursday over the alleged theft.

It said the money was kept in an underground bunker in Lamido’s wife’s wing of the multi-billion naira apartment at NNDC Quarters, in Kano, but was pilfered to “insignificant amount” before it was discovered.

“As I speak to you, we have five suspects in our custody and they have demonstrated a great deal of cooperation and we are living no stone unturned to recover the stolen money,” the paper quoted a high ranking police officer as saying.

Recall Lamido and his sons, Aminu Sule Lamido and Mustapha Sule Lamido, are facing prosecution over alleged corruption and money laundering while the former was Jigawa State governor.
