The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, said an aide of President Muhammadu Buhari is backing the aspiration of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, to succeed the principal.
Wike, who is making war on Atiku and PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu and is insisting on the latter’s removal as the party chair, a grievance borne out of the opposition’s presidential primary and the failure of the ex-vice-president to pick him as running mate dropped this bombshell at the inauguration of the Ahoada Campus and staff quarters of the Rivers State University, which was performed by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday.
The Rivers governor in the outburst, accused Atiku of not keeping to his word saying the former Vice-President and his co-travellers’ alleged behaviours was informed allegedly by the support from an unexpected quarter, an aide of Buhari, said to be backing the PDP to win the 2023 poll.
The governor’s word, “Why are they being so arrogant? I can tell you they are arrogant because they believe somebody in the presidency is backing them.
“But, what they don’t understand is the same person in the Presidency backed somebody as the APC presidential aspirant and the person failed.
“I will tell Nigerians at the appropriate time who the person is in the Presidency that is backing them.”
