Edo Police Command has rescued three abducted traditional worshippers and arrested a female murder suspect, Favour Oyhou.
Its Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Iwegbu, in a statement, noted the feats were in line with the renewed fight to stem the increasing rise in violent crimes, especially kidnapping, in Edo.
She said: “The command, through its divisional headquaters at Ugo, received a complaint that hoodlums, suspected to be kidnappers, accosted and whisked into the bush, three traditional worshippers, who had gone to a river, along the Benin-Abraka road, for prayers.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer at Ugo immediately mobilised his operatives to the scene, in hot pursuit of the hoodlums, and possible rescue of the victims. The hoodlums, sensing the presence of the operatives on their trail, were forced to abandon their victims and fled into the bush.
“The victims have since been reunited with their families, while intense bush combing is still ongoing, to neutralise or arrest the hoodlums.”
Iwegbu also stated that with reference to the incident of July 23 this year, at 7:30 p.m. in Auchi, Edo North Senatorial District, where Paul Handsome, 25, was reported to have been stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Favour Oyhou, and went into hiding, the suspected murderer had been apprehended.
She noted that consequent upon the dastardly act, Edo Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, immediately ordered the Area Commander and Divisional Police Officer in Auchi, to apprehend the fleeing young woman unhurt.
The Deputy PPRO revealed that following credible intelligence gathering by operatives of the command, the suspect was arrested in Benin on July 25 at 10:45 pm while discreet investigation had commenced, with the suspect giving useful information, and would soon be charged to court.
