Kidnappers receive ransom in Bitcoin to free politician’s daughter

Aisha Umar Ardo, daughter of former Adamawa State governorship aspirant, Dr. Umar Ardo, who was abducted on Saturday night in Abuja has been freed.

Aisha was released after her father paid $15,000 in bitcoin as ransom demanded by the kidnappers who abducted the 24-year-old at about 7:45pm at Blinkers Shopping Mall in Asokoro.

“Alhamdulillah miss Aishat UMAR Ardo has just been released after her father paid the $15,000 in bitcoin ramsom(sic). She just called her dad to pick her up at 4th Avenue Gwarinpa,” a Facebook user, Abubakar Sadiq Ajiya, posted.

The same person had two hours earlier credited a statement to Aisha’s father on his/her timeline: “I’m glad to inform all and sundry that my daughter, Ai’sha, has been released by her abductors. I collected her somewhere around Gwarimpa where they dumped her by the roadside. She is safe and sound. I thank you and all Nigerians for the support given to me during these trying hours. I appreciate that it.”

Bitcoin is a digital and global money system currency. It allows people to send or receive money across the internet, even to someone they don’t know or don’t trust. Money can be exchanged without being linked to a real identity. The mathematical field of cryptography is the basis for Bitcoin’s security.
