Recall that Ondo State governorship election will take place in a year’s time and Gov. Akeredolu is suspended by the All Progressive Congress, APC, over alleged anti-party activities in the general election after the ruling party lost the presidential poll in the state.

Thirteen of his commissioners and aides in connivance with APC chieftains of the party including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola and a Southwest leader of the party, Pius Akintelure, are said to be surreptitiously moving against Akeredolu’s re-election.

Aregbesola and Akintelure recently represented Tinubu in a meeting with the said disgruntled elements in the Ondo governor’s cabinet where the talks centred on how to thwart Akeredolu’s ambition as per Punchng.com.

The paper said one major grouse of the commissioners against the incumbent was that he allegedly failed to empower them financially.  Instead, he is said to be opening the vault to his wife and cronies.

Quoting an unnamed source, it wrote: “The 13 members of his cabinet came to Lagos to meet Asiwaju and some other leaders. They said they did not want Akeredolu again. They said aside from their monthly salaries, nothing is for them. They cannot sign contracts of N10,000 in their respective ministries. They said he spent the state money with his wife and cronies.

“They said the money coming from OSOPADEC monthly is being used to finance the office of his wife at the expense of the development of the riverside areas. People at the riverside areas are not happy with his government. We cannot win there.”
