Journalist killed in Lagos road clash involving truck

A journalist with This Day, Akin Akintunde, has been killed in a road clash that occurred on his way home from work.

Akintunde was This Day judicial correspondent.

His demise occurred in Lagos on Monday at Apapa Expressway while driving his car and got involved in an accident with a truck.

The deceased was reportedly returning home from work when he met his death.

The sad event has been followed by a torrent of tributes on Facebook with a bereaved colleague of his in This Day, Raheem Akingbolu posting:

“I was again forced to ask this morning why good people die too soon. On 30th April, my colleague, Akinwale Akintunde of the Judiciary Desk of THISDAY marked his wedding anniversary on face book, everybody celebrated with him.

“Yesterday, Akin went to our Apapa office for production and involved in an accident with a truck on his way home. He died.

“I’m personally touched because Akin was exceptional in behaviour, job ethic and disposition to work. To me, this is a personal loss. Rest in peace brother.”

Another Facebook user, Ajibola Amzat wrote: “Condolences, bro. Never met Akin, but I have read several moving tributes about him. May his soul find rest eternal.”

In his own tribute, Ayo Olesin said: “It is really sad…seems a bit unreal. A gentleman really…God rest his soul and comfort the entire family and friends…”
