It is no longer news that the incumbent Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government (SSG), Obong Umana Okon Umana, wants to be governor of the state in 2015. What is news, perhaps, is the tactics and desperate manoeuvres that the self-styled “man with the plan” is deploying to achieve his ambition. For Umana, he must be governor whatever manner or way he achieves it.
Investigation revealed that the SSG is deploying other arms twisting tactics to achieve his aim.
Apart from the text messages sent on his behalf by a group known as’ the U31 Project’, the routine news releases and rebuttals by the agency engaged to handle the brief and other very unpleasant schemes, Umana is not leaving any stone unturned in his bid to clinch the number one position in the state. If anything, he appears to be firing from all canisters and is ready to hijack the democratic process by all means.
Perhaps what should interest the people of the state was the meeting Umana held with heads of the various cult groups in the state to brief them on ‘the job at hand’.
The hush-hush meeting was said to have been held in a very private location in the state capital and was attended only by heads of the different cult factions who are expected to debrief their members in preparation for the elections.
Those in attendance left the meeting with smiles on their faces as they were said to be well taken care of by the man of means. For Umana, the governorship election is a fierce battle that must be won at all cost – a do-or-die affair!
His antecedent has shown that Obong Umana Okon Umana is a self-seeking individual that is out to use his position in government for his own purpose.
He has spent his years in government amassing wealth and building formidable political structures to achieve his personal ambition of becoming governor of Akwa Ibom State.
As the race for the Uyo Hilltop Mansion continues to gather momentum, observers are watching with keen interest the unfolding drama in Akwa Ibom politics.
