An aircraft that belongs to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, factional Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, has been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a report has claimed.
Though the report failed to name names, investigation carried out by our correspondent revealed that the Dornier aircraft 328, EFCC impounded on Monday at the Maiduguri International Airport is that of the former Borno State governor.
Earlier, the aircraft marked N805PG and 5NBMH had been impounded but it resumed operations without EFCC’s clearance, The Nation reported.
The paper said to hide the ownership, the ex-governor transferred it to a beneficial owner, the MD of Skybird, Mr. Samuel Ayodele.
“We impounded the Dornier 328 on Monday following suspicion in the manner in which it was acquired.
“Our detectives are working on clues that the aircraft belongs to a former governor of Borno State but it is being used by a front. We are already looking into relevant records; we want to establish who actually owns it,” the paper quoted an EFCC source.
Recall Sheriff is under the investigation of the anti-graft agency over allegations of misappropriation, embezzlement of N300bn and abuse of office while he was governor.
