Amaechi-led-Rivers APC faction back Gaidom as acting Chair

A faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State led by Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, said it recognised Chief Victor Giadom, as the party national chairman.

There are two factions of APC in Rivers with the other led by Senator Magnus Abe.

On the back of an appeal court ruling which affirmed the judgment of a lower court on the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by the APC in Etsako Ward 10 and another court verdict, Gaidom  has been laying claim to the party national chairmanship so much so that he cancelled the screening of its governorship aspirants though of no effect.

In turn, the party National Working Committee, NWC, declared Gaidom’s position as the Deputy National Secretary vacant on the grounds that he resigned to run as running mate to the party candidate in the last governorship election in Rivers, adding that Worgu Boms, also  from Rivers State, is in the frame to replace him.

“I want to announce to the world that I am in receipt of the name of a distinguished member of this party from Rivers State to the zone for ratification in the person of Worgu Boms, a former Attorney General of Rivers State. His name has been transmitted to my good office and I want to announce that in the earliest time possible, the South-South zonal executive committee will meet and ratify that name and send the same to the NWC of our great party.” the National Vice Chairman (South-South), Hilliard Eta, said.

Boms belongs to Senator Abe’s faction, and his nomination did not sit well with Amaechi’s camp, who in an interview former publicity secretary of the party in the state, Chris Finebone, granted said: “First and foremost, you know that it is impostors that decided to declare the seat of Giadom vacant. There is a subsisting court order which has made him the acting chairman of the party and for that court decision to subsist, it means that he’s a member of the National Working Committee.

“They are simply joking because the position is not vacant. Chief Victor Giadom is still in that position; he is only an acting national chairman based on the order of the court.”
