Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday, came down heavily on some motorists who drove against traffic along the Murtala Muhammed Airport Road, Ikeja.
The governor, who was returning from Abuja, where he had attended the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council, was shocked at the manner in which some motorists drove against the traffic in order to beat the gridlock around the Nigerian Air Force Base, inwards the International Airport Road, Ikeja.
Ambode was irked by the flagrant abuse of the Lagos State Traffic Law by motorists.
He was particularly angry that one of the offenders, a personnel of the Nigerian Army, who drove an SUV with number plate JJJ 290 AC, choose to blatantly contravene the law.
The governor, on sighting the vehicle, alighted from his car and reprimanded the officer for showing a bad example to other motorists contrary to the discipline that the Nigerian Army was known for.
Another offender, who drove a saloon car with number plate LSR 445 ER, was also scolded by the governor for breaking the law and for being in sensitive to the dangers associated with driving against traffic.
Ambode, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, subsequently ordered that the vehicles be impounded and also directed that the offenders be prosecuted in line with the provisions of the state traffic law.
