Ahead of the planned national convention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has cancelled a purported National Delegate Congress, said to have held Saturday in Ekiti State, describing the outcome as fake and untenable
The body took the decision to disregard the outcome of the supposed congress following outcries pointing at shoddiness, lack of transparency and thoroughness in carrying out the process.
The NWC of APC had sent its officials to Ekiti State to conduct screening that would lead to the selection of delegates to represent the state in its pending National Convention.
The job done by the team acting as party representatives to Ekiti came under scrutiny following reports of naked manipulations and compromise culminating in a shoddy job that was considered unacceptable by stakeholders.
Sources disclosed that the Abuja team, sent to Ekiti State to conduct the congress, got hijacked by some certain interests within the party and were lured to alter laid down modalities of arriving at a credible delegates’ selection.
The team had arrived Abuja with a tailored list only to be upturned by the NWC which declared their selection faulty and as such invalid.
Protest had trailed the process of the delegates’ selection by APC members in Ekiti State, who protested to the NWC, stressing the shoddiness that characterised the selection.
The NWC cancelled the outcome of the purported nominations, as there was no evidence to justify that a thorough job was done to arriving at the list they brought forward.
“The NWC realised that there was no evidence that any congress took place in Ekiti and quickly deployed machineries to scrutinise the process and realised that the whole exercise was a farce. And once that fact was established, there was no option left than to disregard the outcome of the purported congress,” our source disclosed
