1142, arrested over pot of soup

A man has been arrested in Lagos for attempted multiple murders after he put insecticide in a pot of soup of a family of three.

The suspect, Gordon Daniel, is a co-tenant at a ‘face-me-i-face-you’ apartment at Baale Aiyetoro Street in Ajegunle area of Apapa, and he was at loggerheads with his co-tenant, a family of three.

On Wednesday, his co-tenant was said to be cooking in the kitchen they all shared. She left the kitchen to buy salt and on her return met her pot of soup emitting odour of insecticide.

Subsequently she and her husband called the attention of their landlord to it. The matter was taken before the traditional ruler of the area, who invited the police, the report said.

Daniel was arrested, and during interrogation at the Ajegunle police station confessed to the crime, blaming his act on devil and the woman’s husband.

He said her husband abused him over electricity bill.

“It was the work of the devil. I did it to punish the family because the husband abused me because of NEPA bill, calling me a poor man,” the suspect explained.

It was further gathered that the case has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Lagos.
