The Academic Staff Union of Universities said it would put in abeyance its ongoing strike action on the condition that federal government pay up the salaries of its members the latter withheld.
Indication had emerged that the university lecturers were about to call off their ongoing 8-month old strike after government shifted ground and accepted to meet some of their demands.
In an interview with Punchng.com, ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said lecturers would only suspend the strike if salaries owed in arrears by the government were paid.
“We are still consulting; we have not finished consultation, by the end of this week we shall make our report public. There are promises government made with dates. Government promised to release salaries of our members. The withheld salaries have not been paid and we need to have information on that. Government should not expect us to resume without releasing our salaries,” he told the paper.
