The federal government said it is seeking an amendment to the protocols of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS over the spate of crimes besetting Nigeria.

Information and Culture Minister. Lai Mohammed made this known in an interview he granted Sunrise Daily, a breakfast show on Channels Television on Saturday, which was monitored by our correspondent.

Attributing the spell of banditry taking place across the country to unhindered movement of people across ECOWAS countries in the spirit of the protocol, Mohammed said the federal government is disposed to review it in its bid to end the insurgency saying under the current situation criminality is thriving.

According to him, “The ECOWAS protocols allows trans-human between all the ECOWAS countries. That is why we are thinking of seriously reviewing the ECOWAS protocols in that respect.

“What we find out today is that a lot of criminalities have been introduced through the herdsmen and trans-human.”
