The police on Thursday arraigned 56-year-old bricklayer, Friday James before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igbosere for allegedly fingering a six year old girl.
James, who resides at 4r, Kosa Street Pedero, Lagos, is standing trial on a two count charge bordering on unlawful carnal knowledge and fingering preferred against the defendant by the police.
The prosecutor Sergeant Ajaga Agboko told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on November 2, 2016, at about 10:30am at the address stated above.
He said that the defendant unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the girl by forcing her to remove her pant and dipped his finger inside her private part.
According to the prosecutor the offence committed is punishable under sections 137 and 135 (1) of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011.
The defendant pleaded innocent to the offence when the charge was read to him.
Magistrate Martins Owumi did not grant the defendant bail as he said the court does not have jurisdiction to grant bail to the defendant.
However, he adjourned the case till February 15, 2017, for the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution DPP.
