The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) has alleged sinister move to scrap the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
PACAC chairman, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), in a statement the committee Communication Officer, Aghogho Agbahor released, said the plot is hatched to derail the war against corruption.
Sagay said the scheme is in the form of a draft bill if allowed to take effect would subsume the EFCC under the Federal Ministry of Justice.
This he said would derail the war against corruption urging the National Assembly to ensure it doesn’t see the light of the day.
The draft bill proposes a repeal of the EFCC Establishment Act 2004, the scrapping of the Commission, and its replacement with a department in the Federal Ministry of Justice under the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The draft bill also proposes the replacement of the EFCC Executive Chairman with a Director-General to be appointed by the President, based on the recommendation of the AGF and subject to confirmation by the Senate.
