Car dealer docked for stealing N8m from Union Bank


A 46 year old car dealer, Ajibola Olatunji was on Wednesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court Lagos over alleged theft of N8million.

The defendant who resides at 25 Olanbe Road Matogun Ogun State is standing trial on a two count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor Sergeant Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant conspired with one other person, who is still at large to commit the alleged offence.

He said that Olatunji stole the sum of N8million, from Union Bank Head Office in Marina, Lagos sometime in 2013 and ‎in October 2016, during working hours.

Osuji said that ‎the said money that was stolen belongs to Union Bank Plc.

According to him the offence committed is punishable under Sections 409 and 285 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

However the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate A. T Omoyele granted him bail in the sum of N1million, with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, show evidence of tax payment‎, adding that their office and residential addresses must be verified.

Consequently Magistrate Omoyele adjourned the case to February 23, 2017, for mention.
