The resolutions reached in constituency stakeholders’ meetings held simultaneously in all the 40 constituencies in the state will be a major determinant of the direction the 2016 budget will take, says Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Rt. Hon. Obasa, disclosed this while addressing thousands of his constituents in Agege. He said the decision to reach out to them was borne out of “our (Assembly’s) desire to deepen the democratic culture and as well facilitate participatory governance in the state.
“This stakeholders’ meeting is taking place simultaneously in all our constituencies in Lagos state and is aimed at harnessing developmental issues that would inform the year 2016 budget.”
The Lagos Assembly Speaker further stated that the lawmakers are desirous of “collaborating with constituents to ensure that the impact of government is felt at all levels and to reinvigorate rapid socio-economic and infrastructure development in the state”.
According to him, a total of 28 resolutions have been passed by the Assembly since the 8th Assembly was inaugurated in June this year He reiterated that many of the resolutions are for socio-economic projects, control of traffic, implementation of traffic laws, security and maintenance of law and order.
The Lagos Assembly Speaker also stated that the event will be held periodically as it would serve as a forum for the constituents to get feedback on government actions and activities from their representatives as well as engender communal participation in decision-making through recommendations and suggestions they offered at the event.
“This present government in Lagos State is committed to ensuring even community development across the state. For us in Agege, we are feeling the positive impact of this administration with the decision to construct a flyover at Pen Cinema to ease traffic gridlock in the area.
“The motion was not only passed by the House, it has been included in the projects to be undertaken by the state in its re-ordering budget which was passed by the House. Our people can also feel this impact on the Alfa Nla/Capitol Road where work has started in earnest,” he said.
The Governor was represented at the programme by the Permanent Secretary of Civic Engagement, Mrs Adebunmi Adekanye; the All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain in Agege Local Government, Professor Tunde Samuel; former House of Assembly member, Hon Ashimiyu Adebayo; the Olu of Agege, Oba Kamila Oyedeji Isiba;the Executive Secretary, Agege Local Government, Barrister. Omofunmilewa Adejombo; the Executive Secretary of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hakeem Adeyinka; the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Water Regulatory, Arch. Ahmed Kabiru Abdulahi; and another APC chieftain in the area, Chief Safari Adaranijo among others..
Also at the event were representatives of all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in Agege and Dopemu areas, Mrs. Ifedolapo Badmus, DPO of Isokoko police station; the local branches of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) among others.
