Container falls off Ojuelegba Bridge, kills 3

Three persons died on the spot on Tuesday night while many injured after a container loaded with plywood fell off a truck on Ojuelegba flyover bridge and landed on some persons under the bridge.

The truck, according to reports, was heading towards the Maryland end of the bridge when it lost control, and the container it was carrying that was believed was unlatched, fell off and landed on three vehicles, among them, two commercial buses and a car, killing three persons and injuring many others.

It was gathered that passengers in the commercial buses were trapped, while a ragtag team of passers-by, first, made spirited efforts to rescue them, before officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Red Cross and the Nigeria Police arrived at the scene.

In the rescue effort, LASEMA officials used automated saw to cut through the container to release the commercial buses, wherein passengers were trapped. Three of the passengers were brought out dead.
