A banker by the name, Dare Olagoke, has been arrested for allegedly colluding to rob his employer, Abestone Microfinance Bank, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Olagoke’s arrest occurred on Tuesday, according to a statement the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi released.

Oyeyemi said the banker in collusion with one Idowu Tunde, who is also in police custody were caught in the middle of robbing Abestone Microfinance Bank of a sum of N3m he (Olagoke) and his colleague, Mary Agbejo, were directed to go and withdraw at a commercial bank.

In the police spokesman’s narration, Olagoke and Mary went to the bank in a car and when they alighted. As planned he deliberately left the doors unlocked  to allow Tunde unhindered entrance and hid at the backseat.

When the bankers returned to the car and took off, Tunde flashed a toy gun at them but Mary suspecting the gun did not look real dragged it with him raising the alarm, attracting passersby to the scene and consequently leading to his (Tunde’s) arrest by the police in whose custody he sang like canary exposing his partner’s-in-crime role in the foiled robbery.

According to the statement: “He stated further that it was the same Dare Olagoke who gave him the toy pistol for the operation.

“He confessed further that while Olagoke and his colleague were in the bank, he (Tunde) had already hidden in their car, which was deliberately left opened by Olagoke in accordance with their plan.

“While they got into the car, Tunde explained that he came out suddenly from the backseat and pointed a gun at the lady who was in possession of the money.

“But the lady noticed that the gun did not look original, consequent upon which she dragged the gun with him and raised the alarm. It was the alarm that attracted people who pursued them and called the police.”
