Edo to launch sex offenders’ register

The Edo Government has unveiled its plan to domesticate the sex offenders’ register as part of measures to tackle frequent cases of rape.

The Chairperson of the State Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Team, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Benin, amid the heinous murder and rape of a University of Benin undergraduate, Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, inside the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Miracle Sanctuary Mega Parish, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill area.

“I am hoping that in the coming months, after working with our consultants, we will be able to launch our own Edo State sex offenders’ register, which is expected to be a live register to prevent manipulation.

“I want to send a message to the perpetrators out there. We are coming for you. To all those who take pleasure in inflicting violence on their spouses, children and others, know this day that your days are numbered,” Omorogbe, who doubles as the State’s Attorney General and Justice Commissioner said.
