The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the violence that trailed the EndSARS protest has caused men of the police force to fear wearing their uniforms.
Recall that hoodlums hijacked the protest, looting both public and private business premises, killing thirty-six police officers and torching several stations and vehicles belonging to the force.
Mohammed on Friday in an interview with newsmen, said the incident has set off a situation whereby police officers are apprehensive about their safety and now uncomfortable with wearing uniforms.
The minister stated this while lamenting alleged public bias against the police concerning the casualties recorded in the aftermath of the protest.
He said, “Now, this is hunting all of us. Wittingly or unwittingly, we have succeeded in scaring policemen off their beats. Today, many of them are even afraid to wear their uniform. And the result has not been pleasant, in terms of security of life and property.”
