Fake doctor fined N10,000

A fake doctor, Sunday Oppa, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment and fined N10,000.

The judgement was handed down by a Kaduna State High Court on Friday.

The Kaduna State Government had on April 12 dragged Oppa, a laboratory scientist, before Justice Gideon Kurad on a two-count charge of impersonation and culpable homicide.

Accused of parading himself as a medical doctor, Oppa was arrested for giving cancer drug to a patient, one George Ayuba of cancer.

So also the fake doctor was accused of administering wrong drugs on Ayuba, which could have caused his patient’s death.

Charged with attempted homicide, punishable under section 229 (1) of the Penal Code, Laws of Kaduna State, 1991, Justice Kurada found the accused guilty on the first count but discharged him of the second count.

“He did not show the slightest remorse throughout the trial and refused to accept that as a laboratory scientist, he did not have legal backing to treat patients and as such, a threat to the public,” the judge said while delivering judgement.
