Father accuses Bowen University of lying about cause of daughter’s death in campus

The circumstances surrounding the death of Precious Lawani, a student who was offering the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board programme in the institution is causing ripples between father of the deceased and the school.

Late Precious, a teenager, died at 7.00am on December 5, 2020 as per Bowen with its delegation visiting the bereaved family in Port Harcourt to break the news, offering to bury her remains in the institution and responsible for the financial implications.

The account by the delegation that she fell ill, had convulsion and was unable to attend morning devotion leading up to her death is a subject of dispute.

Contrary to the account of the school, Precious’ father, Kassim Lawani said the family found out that she died during devotion from a fall causing serious injury to her skull.

Punchng said it obtained an autopsy revealing that the victim died from “intracranial haemorrhage, skull fracture, blunt force trauma to the head.”

The paper equally quoted Lawani as saying, “While our relatives were talking to some of my daughter’s colleagues who witnessed the incident, they said Precious actually led the prayer on the fateful day, and that while all of them closed their eyes in prayers, they heard a loud bang.

“As they quickly opened their eyes, they discovered that Precious had fallen some meters below a narrow corridor in front of the hostel, where the prayer session was being held.

“As the students rushed down to see what might have happened, they discovered that she had a cracked skull; she was eventually taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.”
