The drama trailing the dualisation of Ikere-Ekiti’s road continued on Thursday with stunning assertion by the king of the town, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin that a million naira, Gov. Ayodele Fayose claimed he gave him was not for him but the deities.
Gov. Fayose had said Oba Obasoyin collected N1 million from his administration to relocate the Ege tree and the Ereje shrine to pave way for the road project.
But on Thursday, the monarch denied receiving the money from Fayose, saying the governor’s allegation against him was a blackmail targeted at smearing his image.
Oba Obasoyin said two of his chiefs, the Eselemo of Odo Oja, Chief Adeyemi Fajilade and Saya, Chief Foluso Olowofela, collected the money from the Commissioner of Works, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun.
He added that the money was not to fell the controversial ancient ege tree and demolish the Ereja shrine but to relocate four deities.
