The federal government said prospective police officers and their counterparts from other agencies who bear guns would these days be subjected to drug and psychiatric tests before enlistment.
The Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the EndSARs protest, adding those already in the service would undergo the exercise periodically.
“Persons recruited into arms-bearing security agencies undergo psychiatric evaluations and drug tests before enlistment and periodically after enlistment to ensure that the personnel are psychologically fit to carry live weapons and to identify behavioural tendencies that may require psycho-social interventions,” Mohammed said.
