Friends and family are mourning a final year undergraduate student pursuing his bachelor’s in Computer Science from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver only weeks before he was set to graduate.
Sodiq Junaid(pictured) had taken an Okada with his friend and housemate, Ismail Oduneye, heading back home after observing the Muslim Friday Prayer Service (Jummah Prayer) around 3pm on June 3, when they were struck by a speeding bus.
Oduneye sustained serious and extensive crush injuries to his legs and has been in the hospital undergoing treatment. But Junaid had a more severe injuries, and died in the hospital four days after the accident.
The day Junaid died coincided with the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
A relation of the deceased who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said barring ill-health Late Junaid would have joined other Muslim faithful to observe fasting but on that day his remains was buried according to Islamic tradition amid tears and eulogies.
It was gathered that undergraduates of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye protested Junaid’s death, and accused a popular market woman in Ago-Iwoye Market(name withheld) of being the owner of the bus that crushed their colleague to death.
