Foreign rice consumption banned in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Government has banned consumption of foreign rice at government’s circle.

Gov. David Umahi announced the ban during a tour of Iboko and Ikwo rice mills’ facilities in the state.

He said he had ordered cooks working with the state government to shun foreign rice and embrace Abakaliki rice.

His word’ ”The parboiling process Abakaliki rice undergoes makes it durable, unlike the imported rice which does not undergo parboiling.

“That is why after six months it becomes chaff and unhealthy for consumption.

“That is why we have banned our cooks from cooking any other rice except Abakaliki rice.”
