The Transition Committee Chairman of Sagamu Local Government area of Ogun, Gbenga Baruwa is mired in a murder controversy involving some of his brothers in-law.

The death of a 37-year-old driver, Olatunde Sunmonu has been pinned on the wife’s brothers said to be internet fraudsters otherwise known as Yahoo boys.

The circumstances surrounding the death of the late driver with a haulage company has been in dispute with conflicting accounts, as per The Nation.

The paper said a version said he was invited by a relative of Baruwa to the chairman’s Sallah party on July 31 when trouble ensued between him and the council boss’ wife’s brothers while another claim his sin was that when he got to the location in his car he had the courage to ask them to clear their vehicles from the road for other road users to move freely.

Anyhow the father-of-four was said to have been beaten to a pulp by his supposed assailants and died on August 2 at the hospital he was rushed to. The bereaved family is also accusing the police of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

“My son was killed by yahoo boys who are related to the council chairman, and there have been attempts to cover up what truly happened. We are pained because even the police deliberately withheld information when my young brother went there to report my son missing.

“They claimed there was an accident that Friday between a woman and some Yahoo boys who are related to the transition committee chairman.

“They were blocking the road and my son came down from his vehicle to tell them to clear so that other drivers would be able to pass.

“The woman entered her car and those boys attacked my son. They beat him and used something to hit him and he collapsed,” the paper quoted the deceased’s distraught father as saying.
