An employee of a security company, Paul Njoku, who allegedly gave false information to police was on Tuesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Njoku, 48, whose address was not given, is standing trial on one-count charge of providing false information, preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, ASP. Eshiet Eshiet, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on September 29, 2015, at 12:30p.m., at Zone 2, Police Command Headquarter Onikan, Lagos.

He said that the defendant falsely informed the police that other staff of the security outfit converted the properties of the company to their own use.

According to the prosecutor, Njoku informed the police that Mr. Dickson Igboche, Patrick Onomhante, Evans Azuike, and Segun Andrew, converted vehicles of the security company, Fountain Source Nigeria Ltd to another company’s use.

Eshiet also said that the defendant had wrongly informed the police that Igboche, Onomhante, Azuike and Andrew, had formed another company named Fountain Guard Ltd, and converted vehicles of Fountain Source to Fountain Guards’ use.

The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant knew that the information he gave to the police was false.

He said that the offence committed is Punishable Under Section 96 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs. F. M. Dalley, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be blood relation of the defendant who must show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She also said that the court should verify the addresses of the sureties and adjourned the case to February 28 for mention.
