Afeez Ajibola, a sales boy working in Oyo State First Lady, Florence Ajimobi’s supermarket, Grandex Stores located at Ibadan was on Tuesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Senior Magistrate’s Court over allegation that he stole N227,945 belonging to the store and other items.

The 24-year-old, who was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on stealing, according to the police prosecutor, Corporal Kola Olaiya, was on November 25, directed to pay N227,945 to the stores account but disappeared with the sum and other items.

Olaiya told the court, the items Ajibola stole include, one black wallet valued at N3,000, and one key ring holder valued N2,500, adding that the total value of items Ajibola stole from Grandex Stores was N233,445.

“Mrs. Adeotun Adigu who is the supervisor is the one that remits money from daily sales to the bank but on November 25 around 9.00am she ordered Ajibola to pay N227,945 to the stores account.

“She forgot to ask him for the teller on his return until days later when the owner of the supermarket, Mrs. Ajumobi, discovered that the teller for November 25 was missing and instructed the supervisor to come over with it.

“Having called Ajibola on phone several times to bring the teller to the supermarket but failed to turn up, it dawned on Mrs. Adigun that Ajibola did not pay the money into the supermarket’s bank account,” Olaiya narrated.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 390 (6) of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Granting the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, the Senior Magistrate, Mrs Munirat Giwa-Babalola, adjourned the case till February 2, 2017 for hearing.
