Governor Godswill Akpabio has been honoured with a diamond award for good governance, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the growth and development of Akwa Ibom State.
This latest honour was bestowed on the Governor last weekend during the Brand as King International Award organised in Accra, Ghana, by a brands media and advertising firm, Executive Media Options Limited, publishers of Billboard World Magazine.
By providing implacable infrastructure and investing in knowledge through the free, compulsory and qualitative education for children in primary and secondary schools, in addition to excellent delivery of good governance to the citizenry, the organizers reckoned that Chief Akpabio’s achievements are towering and highly commendable.
Presenting the award, Mr. Togbo Mansah of the Advertising Association of Ghana, AAG, said the award on Governor Akpabio was well deserved, in view of his landmark achievements in Akwa Ibom State, especially in terms of infrastructural and human development.
Governor Godswill Akpabio, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, while receiving the award, said his government was determined to achieve even greater things for the people of Akwa Ibom, emphasizing that it has resolved to leave a positive mark in the state.
The Governor who dedicated the award to Akwa Ibom children, who are enjoying the free, compulsory and qualitative education in the State, commended the publisher of Billboard World Magazine, Mrs. Maureen Umanah, for her assiduousness and passion towards achieving a better society.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the occasion, Senator Anietie Okon, said the Brand as King International Award was timely in recognizing achievers across Africa. He commended the organisers of the award for the successful outing in Ghana.
Earlier in her address, the publisher of Billboard World, Mrs. Umanah, said the aim of the award was to promote excellence, encourage achievers and motivate key industry players, who have contributed immensely to the development and growth of outdoor advertising business in Nigeria.
The event also featured awards to Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, who received the Diamond award on environment.
Other award recipients include, Chief Mike Adenuga, for most outstanding entrepreneur in the telecom sector; Mr. Reginald Ihejiahi, for most outstanding entrepreneur in the banking sector; Ambassador Baba Kamara, for his role in promoting economic and social relations amongst African countries; Ambassador Ashim Morton, for building relationships across Africa; and Sir Arumeni Johnson –Chairman of Arik Air, for safety and regional coverage.
