The suspect, Sergio Gomes Moreira Filho, a military policeman, said he carried out the dastardly act at the behest of the ambassador’s wife(the couple pictured above).

Report says Amiridis, 59, and his Brazilian wife, Francoise, had been together for 15 years and have a 10-year-old daughter.

The couple reportedly met when Mr Amridis was Greek consul in Rio de Janeiro for three years from 2001 before he took over as Greece’s ambassador to Brazil in January 2016.

Mr Amiridis’ charred body was found on Thursday afternoon in a Ford Ka car left underneath an overpass in the city. He had hired the car to spend Christmas and New Year with his wife’s relatives.

Investigation revealed he was killed in his wife’s apartment Nova Iguacu district of the city after blood stains was found there, and his body dumped in the car he hired, and set ablaze under an highway underpass to cover the tracks.

Filho reportedly confessed that he connived with the diplomat’s wife in the apartment after he found out about their affair after catching them in bed together.
