Gunmen’s attack of Lagos College of Education: Student, Lecturer’s killings condemned

Traditional rulers and a Lagos lawmaker have condemned the killing of one Razak Bakare, a student of the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (Mocped), Epe, Lagos state.

They expressed their mixed feelings in a separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Epe, on Saturday, 20th November, 2021.

NAN report that the killing of the student happened on the 17th of November, at school premises.

Oba(Dr) Babatunde Ogunlaja, the Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija, in Epe Division, expressed his dismay over the killing of the tertiary institution student in the community.

He said that the institution which is situated in his domain and that he was not happy with the ugly incidents.

According to him, a student identify as Rasak popularly known as Rasky was shot dead in the institution premises some days ago.

Ogunlaja said such occurrences was a condemnable act and a gross misconduct from students of higher institution of learning.

He therefore, called on the management of the institution to install CCTV cameras in some gray areas within the school premises to trace the perpetrators.

The Oba said that since the event brokeout, he has been working tirelessly with government security agencies, vigilantes and other relevant stakeholders to fight against such unwanted menance in the community.

Ogunlaja called on the government to come to the community aide to tackle the security challenge confronting the institution and the community.

He called on Lagos State Government to erect a collapsed fence in the institution, saying that was the route the students escaped through it.

Also, Mr Abiodun Tobun, Member, Lagos House of Assembly, representing Epe constituency 1, decried such killing in the prestigious institution.

He said that, the institution has known peace since establishment not until recently that such ugly events occurred.

“I totally condemned such action and I know the management of the institution will take adequate measure to eliminate such unforseen circumstances,” he said.

The lawmaker urged students to face their studies, be ambassador of peace and be agent of development and not agent of killing and destruction.

“Know the type of gang to join in school, do not join cultism rather join a reading/studying hard groups and be a religious fellow,” he said.

Tobun said that, he would work closely with traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders to fight against cultism, hooliganism, hoodlums and other social vices in the community.

Oba(Dr) Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, also lamented at the killing of a teacher named, Ahmed Saheed, in poka area of Epe Division yesterday.

He said that the traditional institution condemned such scenario in the community.

He pledged that the traditional institution would ensure that all efforts were taken to fight against such ugly trend in the community.(NAN)
