Hackers steal millions of naira from bank customers’ accounts in Abia

Not few customers of two commercial banks located along Bank Road, Umuahia, the Abia State capital were left with distraught after hackers reportedly broke into the banks’ data base and stole millions of naira.

Vanguard reported that the dastardly operation was carried out in the wee hours of Tuesday, between 1am and 3am, during which the victims received debit alerts of various amounts to their surprise and worry.

Very early in the morning they(victims) were said to have gathered in the banks to lodge complaints with the officials, the report said.

Citing a senior official of the bank, the paper said the heist was traced to international hackers.

It quoted one Mrs Nnenna Ukachi who broke down in tears, claiming she received debit alert of N250,000 a good Samaritan paid into her account for her sick child treatment as saying, “My life is finished, what will I do? That money is my only hope from God and now, the bank is telling me a story I can’t understand. What should I do?”
