A State High Court in Osun State has sentenced a popular herbalist in Iwo, Osun State, Toyese Ayokunmi, to a 14 year imprisonment for defrauding one Ismaila Abiodun to the tune of N2.7 million.

In his verdict, the presiding judge, Justice Adekunle Adeigbe convicted Ayokunmi, who was popularly called Akinkanngudu to 14 years jail term with hard labour without any option of fine.
The state legal team led by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mr. Dapo Adeniji told the court that the herbalist had sometimes last year duped Abiodun when the latter visited his shrine located in Iwo for spiritual assistance for safe delivery of his wife who was pregnant.

Abiodun’s wife was said to have suffered several miscarriages before someone introduced him to the popular herbalist who demanded that the victim must pay the said amount of money to his account in order for
his wife to deliver safely.

The prosecution further told the court that the money was paid into Skye Bank account number 1010048160, with code number 254.

According to the prosecution, Ayokunmi committed offences punishable under the law with a three count charge of conspiracy, stealing by trick and fraud pressed against him.

Mr. Adeniji then informed the court that the offences committed by the convict were contrary to sections 1 (1) and (2) and punishable under section 1 (3) of the advance free fraud and related offences Act 2006 and 390 (9) of the criminal code Cap 34, volume 11 laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002.
