Nigerian Air Force has attributed the death of Nigeria’s first female combat pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, to an old classmate of hers.
Arotile, who hailed from Kogi State, died on Tuesday in a car accident in Kaduna State.
The death of the 24-year-old, according to a statement the force’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Com. Ibikunle Daramola released, was precipitated by a former classmate of the deceased, who they had not seen for ages and was excited to see her after a long while.
The person, whose identity was undisclosed, was said be driving and had driven passed her.
In the process of reversing, the person unwittingly hit the history making pilot with the car causing her sudden end.
“Flying Officer Arotile died on July 14, 2020 at the age of 24, when she was inadvertently hit by the reversing vehicle of an excited former classmate at the Air Force Secondary School while trying to greet her,” the statement read in part.
