The Army has told of its intervention in the violence that trailed the EndSARS protest in Lagos State.
Army has come under attack over its men’s alleged killings of some peaceful protesters at the Lekki tollgate, a claim the force consistently denied.
Appearing before the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters on Saturday, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, Commander of the 81 Division, Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, reiterated the position of the army as to Lekki tollgate protest, and its roles.
Taiwo went on to reveal how the military embarked on rescue mission galore including saving Oba Rilwan Akiolu and his family from harm likewise the Government House and N2bn kept in banks’ custody.
“We were able to help banks evacuate about N2bn after two days. The hoodlums attempted to invade the Government House, but it was repelled.
“Both the Oba and his family were ferried to safety by the Nigerian Army,” he narrated, playing a video recording of the monarch and his family being rescued and taken into a military pickup truck.
