Report has emerged that the panel set up to investigate suspended Deputy Inspector of Police, Abba Kyari for alleged complicity in a $1.1m Internet fraud undertook by Abbas Ramon, aka Hushpuppi and four others, namely AbdulRahman Juma, Vincent Kelly Chibuzo, Rukayat Motunrayo Fashola and Bolatito Agbabiaka, has absolved him.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, had thrown accusation of sharing from the loot at Kyari, accusing him of arresting Chibuzor at the behest of Hushpuppi and keeping him in detention for a month to enable the star accused(Hushpuppi) in the heist to cut out the detainee from having continued access to their Qatari victim.

In view of the claim and FBI’s demand for the extradition of the former Head, Intelligence Response Team to the United States to have his days in court, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba set up a four-man panel headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike.

Two weeks after it was constituted and upon series of interactions with Kyari, Punchng said the committee submitted its report to Baba last week wherein it allegedly absolved the embattled cop of the charge against him with their recommendations in favour of him to the disappointment of the Inspector General of Police.

“The panel concluded its investigation and submitted its report to the IG last Thursday or Friday but the IG rejected it. He was not comfortable with the panel findings and recommendations,” the paper quoted an unnamed police source as saying.

The report said Kyari and Egbunike have good relationship that dates back to the time of the head of the panel was an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the police Accounts Department suggesting their cordiality may have influence the position of the committee.
