Fifteen persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on the convoy of Governor Hope Uzodimma on Monday.
Uzodinma’s convoy was ambushed on his way to the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, to inaugurate an officers’ mess, coutesy the state government by machete and gun-bearing hoodlums who were said to be staff members of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) protesting non-payment of salaries.
Fifteen of them have been rounded up, and according to the State Commissioner of Police Isaac Akinmoyede, they claimed they are in the employ of ISOPADEC and protesting alleged non-payment of their salaries for three-month.
However, the State Commissioner of Information and Strategy Declan Emelumba, pinned the attack on Uzodinma’s political adversaries saying the claim by the suspects that they are government workers didn’t add up and a failed ploy to imperil the governor’s good works.
“The opposition is smarting from the irredeemable shame the government’s successes is rubbing on their face.
“They quickly thought of another protest to take the shine out off the increasingly unbeatable trajectory of Governor Uzodimma’s success stories. But, luck ran out of luck this time,” Emelumba said.
