The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Edo Chapter, has denied any hand in the Tuesday’s road crash, which claimed lives of two policemen in the convoy of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The build-up to the September 19 governorship election in Edo State has been fraught with rancour, accusation and counter-accusation between the PDP and the APC.
Oshiomhole convoy’s accident caused by an articulated vehicle on his way to APC campaign rally has sparked another salvo of bitter exchange with the ruling party alleging that it was premeditated attempt to kill their former National leader.
“From all indications, including factual accounts from members of the entourage and other eye-witnesses, the unfortunate crash which took place at Oluku Junction Edo, was a plotted and near-successful assassination attempt,” the Publicity Secretary of the Edo APC, Chris Azebamwan, had said in a statement.
Responding to the insinuation, PDP Secretary in the state, Chris Nehikhare alleged in a statement he released that Oshiomhole was not a stranger to losing people in his convoy adding that the former governor should be investigated for frequently losing people in his convoy in accident.
“The claim is childish, irresponsible and preposterous, and if anything, Oshiomhole should be answering questions over his convoy’s frequent involvement in road crashes that have claimed the lives of about 10 persons since 2008,” Nehikhare, said.
Contnued: “if the APC is sure about the intent of the truck driver that reportedly rammed into Oshiomhole’s convoy, even before investigation is carried out by the relevant agencies of government, the APC should also know who the assassin is, the sponsor, if any, and should be courageous enough to name them.”
