A teenage girl has hung herself from a tree in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State after she was gang raped by three men, and was scolded by her mother for opened herself to the sexual assault.

The deceased, Comfort Uche-Ume who lived with her parents at Iyienyi was said to be returning home last week Friday after she accompanied her elder sister to visit the husband at Okwoyi, a neighbouring village when she was ambushed in the bush by her assailants, Ndubuisi Wogu, Chinaza Ufomadu, and Francis Onwoboro who forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

The suspects are currently on the run, and are in their early twenties.
The 15-year-old who just finished writing her junior secondary school final exam at Isieke Community Secondary School was said to have told her parents about the ugly incident and the matter was reported at the police station on the same day.

But while police were carrying out investigation, it was gathered that Comfort’s mother was always blaming her for the rape, claiming if she had not been walking alone in the bush, her assailants would not have had the courage to assault her.

The repeated scolding by her mother made the deceased further devastated, and on Tuesday she sneaked into the bush and hang herself from a guava tree.
