A Kano-based musician, Dauda Kahutu, aka Rarara, is facing legal action for featuring a married woman, Maryam Muhammad, in his music video without her husband’s consent.
Maryam’s husband, Abdulkadir Inuwa, is alleging the violation of his fundamental human rights as a husband in the case he filed before an Upper Shariah Court in Kano, which came up on Tuesday.
The petitioner told the court that Rarara eloped with his wife of five months and his manhunt for her paid off after he caught them together in the singer’s latest music video on YouTube where she featured as a dancer.
However, in defense, lawyer to the musician, Muhammad Bello, told the court to dismiss the case on the grounds that his client was not in charge of recruiting dancers for his works saying the responsibility resided with his producer.
But Bello’s prayer was declined by the Sharia judge, who went on to order investigation into the matter and adjourned the matter till February 2, 2021.
