The federal government may have released an interim report on the touted coronavirus cure made by Madagascar.
The herbal drug, which was gifted to Nigeria by the island nation divided opinions among Nigerians with scores of the view that the country (Nigeria) is blessed with enough herbal remedies to tackle the novel COVID-19 and so the federal government ought to look inward instead of receiving the freebies.
On Thursday at the Presidential Taskforce on the scourge press briefing, the Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire in response to a question about the Madagascar drug posed to him said preliminary report on the herbal drug revealed that the plant used in making it is abundant in Nigeria.
Ehanire said: “The preliminary result or analysis of Madagascar’s herb done by the Nigerian Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development shows that it is the same plant called artemisia annua which is grown in farms in Abuja.
“Further research on its efficacy will be conducted when the grant for the research is approved.”
