OrijoReporter.com, Major Gen Hakeem Oladapo Otiki

The General Court Martial which tried the General Officer Commanding 8 division, Sokoto Major Gen Hakeem Oladapo Otiki for stealing and fraud has found him guilty on all counts.

Otiki came to ignominy last year’s July after huge sum belonging to the Army he was conveying to Abuja from Sokoto allegedly to some military brass lost in transit.

Five soldiers who were escorting the money while he was in another car allegedly carted it away raising suspicion he was party to the heist culminating in his trial by the military.

The Court headed by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Army, Lt. Gen Lamidi Adeosun found Otiki Guilty of disobedience to service orders, theft of public property among others.

It spurned entreaties by his counsel that his mother allegedly died from the shock of the incident and his wife is down with cancer and sentenced him to dismissal from service while his rank took a nosedive to Brig General, among other retributions.

The sentences are however subject to confirmation of the Army Council.

The Court also ordered that all monies totalling #135.8million, $6,600 recovered by the Special Investigation Bureau be returned to the coffers of the Nigerian Army.

It ordered that another #150million stolen money which could not be accounted for, should also be returned to the coffers of the Nigerian Army.

It added that all the sentences are subject to the approval of the appropriate convening authority.
