Former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi, who in a viral video of him said lack of ammunition is negating the fight against insurgency in the northeast has been demoted.
In the video, which surfaced online eight months ago, Adeniyi complained that terrorists had superior firepower and were killing soldiers on the battlefield, a revelation that landed him in troubled waters with the military authorities alongside his aide, Private Tokunbo Obanla, culminating in their prosecution.
Upon the video circulation, the Major-General was removed from the battlefield and also suspended by the military.
The embattled top officer in his defence denied any wrong saying his phone was in the custody of Obanla as of the time of the incident, suggesting his aide may be responsible for the video leakage.
The aide on his part, said the video was posted on social media in error.
On Monday, the jury was out as a tribunal found them guilty of unlawful use of social media, and damage to service property amongst other issues and handed down punishments.
According to report, Adeniyi was demoted while Obanla was sentenced to 28 days imprisonment.
