Two children of late MKO Abiola, Kassim Abiola, and Aliyu Abiola, who were arrested over the robbery that took place in the deceased businessman’s Ikeja home in Lagos have sued their step-mother, Mrs Adebisi Abiola.
Following the break-in at the residence, Kasim and Aliyu have been in custody of the police since September 2 on suspicion of having hands in the burglary.
The duo in the suit filed by Chief Mike Ozekhome on their behalves said Mrs. Abiola is behind their ordeal, claiming on the said date, the police while arresting them at the residence on Toyin Street dehumanized them, subjecting them to public ignominy.
They claimed their detention and alleged brutal arrest, violated their fundamental human rights seeking N100m damages.
It reads in part: “The applicants were informed that their arrest was based on an alleged complaint by one Mrs Adebisi Abiola, their stepmother, to the effect that a robbery incident took place in their home; that suspected armed men invaded the residence and carted away valuables, including money.
“The applicants were forcibly dragged like common criminals, more in form of abduction than arrest and roughly driven to the Ikeja police station.
“They were promptly detained without any record, howsoever. They were not given any opportunity to speak with anyone, let alone a lawyer.”
