A lover from hell, Sotonye Martin, killed a female staff of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Miss Sophia Phillips Horsefall after she refused to make him her next-of-kin to her bank account and failed to give him N1m he requested, a Port Harcourt magistrate’s court heard on Wednesday.
The Department of State Services, DSS, arraigned the accused, Martin and two others, Innocent Oluche and Wachukwu Ugochukwu.
Lawyer to DSS, Mr C. S. Eze, told the court that Martins who has a child with Late Sophia, a 13-year-old daughter, had lured her to the house of the second defendant(Innocent Oluche) and stabbed her to death after she failed to accede to his requests that she should make him next-of-kin to her bank account and give him a million naira.
The deceased was allegedly killed on November 8. And in order to cover their tracks, Eze said Martins and Innocent buried Sophia’s body and invited a spiritualist in the person of the third defendant (Wachukwu Ugochukwu) to perform some rituals.
He said the accused are facing three-count charge that include murder, adding that they commited an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Laws of Rivers State 1999.
Chief Magistrate F. Alikor ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody and referred the casefile to the state Director of Public Prosecution.
Magistrate Alikor said her court cannot hear murder because it has no juridiction on such matters.
