These are not best of times for some contractors handlings various contracts for the Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA) as they groan under the exploitative and oppressive attitude of one of the directors in the agency.
Sources within NIMASA disclosed that many of the staff as well as contractors are displeased by the domineering attitude of a female director who sees herself as the defacto Director General and Alpha and Omega of the agency.
Specifically, this particular female director unduly influences access to NIMASA businesses, thereby undermining the authority of the Director General.
It was gathered that the director fondly called Hajia is so powerful that she often brags that she could override the directives of the Director General and nothing will happen.
Informed sources disclosed that since her promotion as substantive director some contractors have been compelled to “play ball” or get frustrated within the system.
Sources close to NIMASA further revealed that this female has continued to undermine the authority of the DG in collaboration with some of her contacts in the presidency with a view to taking over as the DG of the Agency.
Further investigation revealed that all projects from her present department or area of influence are awarded to her using some contractor company details and proceeds from the contracts transferred to her bank account with a leading Nigerian bank or her approved beneficiary.
This practice she has perpetrated over the years without the knowledge of the respective Director Generals but to the dismay of NIMASA Staff and the contractors.
It was alleged that she is the unseen hand that planted negative false corruption stories in the media against a former Director General for daring to checkmate her excesses and for transferring her from her preferred department.
Sources within the Agency revealed that all the Director Generals who resisted her greed and manipulations were subjected to negative media reviews and false corruption allegations.
Those familiar with the workings in NIMASA disclosed that this director worked so hard to discredit and undermined the former Director General Dr. Patrick Akpobolekemi with spurious false corruption allegations she planted in the media against the DG for employing a professional and transferring her to another department.
However, some contractors and members of staff of NIMASA stated that they suspect the present DG is merely tolerating her excesses because he does not want any confrontation with her because of her ethnic background.
Further investigation revealed that her activities is an abuse of power and disregard for anti-corruption stand of Muhammed Buhari APC led administration.
In view of these unfortunate development happening in NIMASA one can only imagine the hurdles Nigerians go through in their honest bid to solicit for contracts and get paid for jobs.
