Father of detained Biafra protagonist, and Radio Biafra’s director, Nnamdi Kanu, HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu, has shed light on his last year’s journey to Germany.
Then, it was rumoured that the senior Kanu, who is the traditional ruler of Isiama Afara, a community in Umuahia, Abia State, was in Germany to lobby the German government to support efforts to realise Biafra Republic.
Dismissing the rumour, Kanu said he was in Germany for medical tourism.
“I went to Germany not for Biafra as some people were saying, but for medical treatment because I felt so bad then. Funny enough, while in Germany for four months, nothing was found to be wrong with me, yet I was dying. My health had not so deteriorated like that since my son was incarcerated,” he told The Sun.
On the struggle for the actualisation of Biafra, Kanu accused Igbo leaders of fence-sitting alleging they fear to lose their investments outside Igboland.
He said, “Igbo leaders have not indeed shown commitment to the Biafra struggle. I do not know the reason for their action except that they are afraid of their investment outside Igboland, which they will not carry to their graves when they die.”
